Logo design is always and forever changing. Sometimes simple logos are best, but the client might be drawn to complexity and visual textures. After working with Adobe Illustrator for about 4 years, I have learned that "less is more". The original image had too many colors, clashing hue shifts, a... some kind of background. It really does look like a early piece. It was lazy design. The gradients were inconsistent in direction, had little to no depth, and the background is too high in contrast for the colors used on the logo. I went back to the drawing board and starting planning a simpler version of the top hat logo... I scrapped the whole thing after seeing so many examples of "winged R" logos, "Sir" logos, and I got to thinking... "What if I just focused on the letter and made one focal stemming from that?" It worked. He loves it! The new logo is a testament as to how much your art sense grows over time from Just being exposed to different styles.
